A cameo role may be defined as a brief appearance of an actor on screen; typically playing oneself as a character that stands out from other trivial roles.
THE CAMEO SERIES consists of studio sets in which Frank en Michiel deconstruct the commercial image by re-enacting stereotypes, confronting their audience with a reality that constantly exceeds the ‘real’ reality. In this project Frank en Michiel examine the contrasts between fiction and reality, universal and cliché, and art and entertainment. Have you ever wondered about becoming the new face of Chanel? Have you ever wondered how the cowboy must feel whilst smoking a Marlboro cigarette? These questions will be central to the research on the communicative role of imitation within our contemporary visual culture and how this influences our society.
